Rules of the Road
The
library is not able to monitor or control information accessible through
the Internet and cannot be held responsible for the accuracy of its content.
Patrons are responsible for evaluating the quality, relevance, and appropriateness
of the Internet resources they access. EVALUATE THE SOURCE OF ALL INFORMATION
YOU FIND.
Patrons may sign up for one 30 minute time block per day. If no
one is scheduled to use the computer after your time is completed, you
may continue for one additional 30 minute time block. Computers may be
reserved in advance, but patrons who are not on time may find their time
slot taken by others who are waiting.
Patrons may print pages. Patrons are asked to observe copyright
restriction. Ink cartridges for the printer are very expensive. You are
encouraged to limit printing to what is absolutely necessary. Monetary
donations for materials printed are accepted gratefully by the library.
The
Internet is here for educational and research use. Patrons are expected
to use the Internet within the scope of the library's mission.
Patrons are not permitted computer access for unlawful activities,
including violations of copyright law or other rights of third parties,
or the transmission of obscene, threatening or harassing material. It
is a felony to possess "any film, photograph or other visual presentation
depicting a person under age 16 years as the subject of a sexual portrayal
or engaging in or simulation, or assisting others to engage in or simulate,
sexual conduct."
Files downloaded from the Internet may contain computer viruses.
The library is not responsible for any damage to patron disks or patron
owned computers or for any loss of data, or damage to data that may occur
from use of library owned computers.
Patrons will not attempt to modify or tamper with the library's
computer hardware or software, introduce viruses, or load any programs.
Patrons are not permitted to use IRC chat nor web based chat rooms
on library computers.
The
library computers are not to be used to operate an online business, or
distribute advertising. Patrons may not represent themselves as another
person or in any way that is inconsistent with the library's tax-exempt
status.
Patrons who violate Brandon Public Library Internet
Access Policy may lose Internet access on a temporary or permanent basis, depending
on the seriousness of the violation. Patrons will be held financially
liable for any damage that is caused to the library computer hardware
or software through violation of Internet policy or willful misuse of
the equipment.
Patrons are expected to act in a quiet and orderly manner while
in the library. Only one person is permitted at the Internet station
at any time.
The
library staff will help patrons to find information as time allows, but
the staff must also help other patrons and conduct other work. The staff
cannot provide extensive computer instruction. Books and magazines on
computer use are available in the library. |
