New Books for the BorrowingCheck out our shelf of new items. Often do not have a waiting list for new titles. When we recommend a book it is because we honestly feel it is worthwhile, unlike commercial websites which may be receiving payments from the publishers. So, you want to check out a book? The Brandon Library is a member of the Winnefox Library System. If you are a resident of Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Waushara, or Winnebago County in Wisconsin, you have borrowing privileges at this library. There is no cost to applying for a library card. We merely ask that you fill out a registration form. Parents of children (anyone under 18) must sign the registration form before a card is issued to a child. Books and magazines may be borrowed for 2 weeks. Audio books may be checked out for 2 weeks. Videocassettes and DVDs may be checked out for 2 days. If you need to renew a book, you may stop at the library or give us a call and leave a message on our machine. Please give us your name, and the title of the item. Patrons may renew a book twice, unless there is a reserve on the book. If you are a long way from Brandon, you can still get books from us through interlibrary loan. Check at your local library to find out how this works.Internet and Public Access Computer ServicesNeed a resume or want to surf the 'net? We have one public access computer. You may surf the Internet, or use Microsoft Works. Patrons can sign up for 30 minute time blocks. If no one is signed up after your 30 minute block is up, you may sign up for an additional 30 minutes. Access is limited to one hour per day. Anyone under 18 must have a parental consent form signed and on file at the library. Our Use Policy and Rules of the RoadAskAwayThe Brandon Public Library is participating in AskAway. This collaborative reference service allows users to submit questions by going to the AskAway web page and sending a question by email or using chat to get real time answers to questions. Real time chat is available for reference questions 24 hours a day, every day of the week. Sorry no time for chit-chat, just business.
Tax Forms (In Season)Yes, we have them. Most of the more common forms are available at the library. But, no, we have no money to help you pay those taxes!Overdues and Lost MaterialsWe have a two cent a day charge for overdue materials. Pretty cheap, eh? There is a fine limit of fifty cents for patrons under 18. Overdue videos are fifty cents per day. Lost items are billed for the replacement cost. Once the replacement cost is paid, patrons may again borrow materials. There is a deep appreciation, but no prize, for the patron who has the most creative story as to why the book is late or lost.If we don't have it, we'll try to get itIf we don't have the book you are looking for or information on the topic you're interested in researching, we will do our best to obtain materials through interlibrary loan. We place a request to other libraries that have what you need. Because we are borrowing from other libraries and are responsible for their materials, we ask that special care be taken to return interloan materials to us on time.Returning Books/VideosYou may return books and videos in person. You may also leave books and videos in our book drop. If you have materials from any other public library in the Winnefox Library System, you can also return those items here. They will be returned by delivery service to the lending library. Please allow a few days for travel time in order for the other library to receive the materials on time.Other services too good to missWe also give advice on what to read next, tell you to wear your hat if the weather is nippy, and suggest you try chicken soup for that cold. You may " kibitz " with a friend here and we won't hush you unless you're truly loud enough to disturb others. We only ask that you use reasonable library manners so this remains a place where all are welcome. |
